Canal Street 'Rainy Day' - 2.1

$500.00

16 x 20 inches, oil on canvas.

original, unique, and authentic artwork. arrives signed with certificate of authenticity.

.

I am fascinated with the subway as a transient public space and its relation to the ‘trace’ - the evidence of unseen people in a space and what gets left behind. This series was inspired by a sign at the Canal Street station (which has since been painted over) that was covered in tags, scratches, stains, and paint. To me, this defaced piece of public property acted as an accidentally collaborative piece of public art, one born of uncontrolled organic processes.

That sign led me to this series, where I tried to emulate the energy of something both structured and uncontrolled; graphic and organic. Produced over the summer of 2024, this four-part series is titled ‘Rainy Day’, and is now yours to enjoy.
